Car Insurance for Rolls-Royce Ghost: Premium, Coverage and Plans for 2026

As of 2026, under current IRDAI norms.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the entry point to Rolls-Royce ownership, embodying what the company calls its post-opulence design philosophy, understated luxury that whispers rather than shouts. Priced between Rs 7.05 crore and Rs 7.95 crore (ex-showroom), it is powered by a magnificent 6749cc twin-turbo V12 producing 571 PS and delivering the legendary magic carpet ride that defines every Rolls-Royce. Since its launch in 2009, the Ghost has become the best-selling Rolls-Royce in India. But here is the reality, a single body panel can cost Rs 5 to Rs 15 lakh to replace, paint matching runs Rs 1 to Rs 3 lakh, and every component is hand-assembled at Goodwood in England. A proper car insurance for Rolls-Royce Ghost with an agreed value policy is not a choice, it is the only responsible way to protect a seven-crore automobile.

What Is Rolls-Royce Ghost Car Insurance?

Rolls-Royce Ghost car insurance is a specialized motor insurance policy designed to cover the financial risks of owning an ultra-luxury vehicle worth Rs 7 crore or more. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every Ghost on Indian roads must carry at least a valid third-party insurance policy. Given the astronomical cost of repairs, replacement parts, and the vehicle's bespoke nature, a comprehensive policy with an agreed value is absolutely mandatory.

Here is what makes insuring a Rolls-Royce Ghost fundamentally different from any other car:

  • Agreed value policy is mandatory, Standard IDV depreciation schedules are meaningless for a Rolls-Royce. You and the insurer agree on a fixed insured value (typically Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 7.5 crore) with no depreciation deductions at claim time
  • 6749cc V12 falls in highest TP slab, The Ghost's massive twin-turbo V12 engine puts it in the above 1500cc TP premium slab at approximately Rs 7,890/yr as mandated by IRDAI
  • Every part is imported from Goodwood, England, There is no local manufacturing. Import duties of 100% to 150% apply on every replacement component, from a door handle to a dashboard panel
  • A single body panel costs Rs 5 to Rs 15 lakh, The Ghost's aluminium spaceframe construction uses panels formed with extreme precision. Each panel is hand-finished. Minor dent repairs cost more than a mid-size sedan
  • Paint matching costs Rs 1 to Rs 3 lakh, Rolls-Royce offers 44,000 paint colours. The multi-layer hand-applied finish takes days to match. A simple scratch repair on a Ghost can cost what an entire respray costs on a regular car
  • Only 2 to 3 authorised service centres in India, Rolls-Royce operates authorised centres in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad only. Your Ghost must travel to one of these locations for any repair, adding logistics costs to every claim

Why Rolls-Royce Ghost Insurance Matters

The Rolls-Royce Ghost represents an investment of Rs 7 crore or more. Driving without bulletproof insurance is like leaving the vault door open. Here is why every Ghost owner needs comprehensive agreed value coverage:

  • Repair bills start in lakhs, not thousands, A Ghost front bumper replacement costs Rs 4 to Rs 8 lakh. A headlamp assembly runs Rs 3 to Rs 6 lakh. The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament replacement (with its retractable mechanism) costs Rs 2 to Rs 4 lakh. Without comprehensive cover, a parking lot scratch can cost you a small car's price.
  • Parts wait times of 4 to 12 weeks are normal, Every Ghost component is sourced from the Goodwood factory in England. Shipping, customs clearance, and import duties mean your car could sit in the workshop for months. Comprehensive insurance with agreed value ensures you are financially protected during the waiting period.
  • Chauffeur-driven usage is the norm, Most Ghost owners in India employ personal drivers. Your policy must account for this. Comprehensive coverage protects regardless of who drives, but adding paid driver personal accident cover protects your chauffeur in case of injury during duty.
  • Theft and vandalism target high-value vehicles, A Rs 7 crore vehicle attracts attention. The agreed value policy ensures your claim payout matches the true value, not a depreciated figure that could leave you crores short.
  • Natural disaster damage is catastrophic, Mumbai and Delhi flooding events have destroyed ultra-luxury vehicles. A Ghost submerged in floodwater faces Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore in damage from water ingress to its electronics, V12 engine, and hand-stitched interior. Comprehensive covers this.
  • Third-party liability is unlimited, A 2.5-tonne luxury sedan involved in a collision can cause severe damage and injury. consumer redressal body-mandated compensation can run into crores. Your TP cover handles unlimited bodily injury liability.
  • Bespoke features need specific coverage, Ghost owners often commission bespoke elements, hand-painted coachlines, custom embroidery, personalized tread plates. These bespoke additions must be declared and covered at their actual cost within the agreed value.
Did You Know? The Spirit of Ecstasy Is Worth Lakhs

The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament on the Rolls-Royce Ghost is not just a badge, it is a precision-engineered mechanism that automatically retracts into the bonnet when the car is locked or senses tampering. Replacing this mechanism, including the figurine, illumination (on equipped models), and the electronic retraction system, costs Rs 2 to Rs 4 lakh. It is one of the most stolen automotive emblems globally. Your comprehensive policy covers theft of this component. But only if your overall coverage is adequate.

Coverage Options for the Rolls-Royce Ghost

For an ultra-luxury vehicle like the Rolls-Royce Ghost, comprehensive coverage with agreed value is the only acceptable option. Here is how the coverage types compare:

Feature Third-Party Only Comprehensive (Agreed Value)
Third-party bodily injury Covered (unlimited) Covered (unlimited)
Third-party property damage Covered (up to Rs 7.5 lakh) Covered (up to Rs 7.5 lakh)
Own damage (accident) Not covered Covered up to agreed value (Rs 5.5Cr–Rs 7.5Cr)
Theft protection Not covered Covered up to agreed value
Fire and explosion Not covered Covered
Natural disasters Not covered Covered (flood, earthquake, storm)
Personal accident cover Rs 15 lakh (owner-driver) Rs 15 lakh (owner-driver)
Spirit of Ecstasy replacement Not covered Covered (Rs 2–Rs 4 lakh component)
Bespoke features coverage Not covered Covered if declared in agreed value
Starlight headliner repair Not covered Covered (repair costs Rs 3–Rs 8 lakh)
Add-on covers available No Yes (zero dep, RSA, RTI, consumables, paid driver PA)
Estimated Ghost premium Rs 50,000 – Rs 80,000/yr Rs 3,00,000 – Rs 6,00,000/yr

Ultra-luxury note: The Rolls-Royce Ghost's 6749cc V12 falls in the above 1500cc TP slab at approximately Rs 7,890/yr. However, the TP premium is a tiny fraction of the total. The OD component, calculated on the agreed value of Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 7.5 crore, forms the bulk of the premium. For a vehicle where a minor fender bender costs Rs 5 to Rs 10 lakh to fix, the Rs 3 to Rs 6 lakh annual premium is a fraction of potential repair costs.

How to Buy Rolls-Royce Ghost Insurance Online

Buying car insurance for Rolls-Royce Ghost requires more consideration than a standard car policy, but the process at hizuno.com is straightforward:

  1. Enter your vehicle details, Visit hizuno.com/car-insurance and enter your Rolls-Royce Ghost's registration number. The system identifies your model year, variant (Standard/Extended), and RTO location.
  2. Select comprehensive with agreed value, For a vehicle worth Rs 7 crore+, comprehensive coverage with an agreed value is the only option. Review the proposed agreed value to ensure it reflects your Ghost's true worth, including any bespoke commissions.
  3. Choose your add-ons, Select zero depreciation (non-negotiable for imported parts), return-to-invoice cover, roadside assistance with luxury vehicle recovery, consumables cover, and paid driver personal accident cover for your chauffeur.
  4. Review and apply NCB, Verify all details including agreed value, bespoke feature declarations, add-ons, and final premium. Apply your NCB discount (20% to 50%) if you have a claim-free record.
  5. Pay and receive instant policy, Complete payment via net banking or card. Your Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance policy is generated instantly and emailed for immediate download.

Key Factors That Affect Your Rolls-Royce Ghost Premium

Your Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance premium is influenced by factors unique to ultra-luxury vehicles. Understanding these helps you negotiate the best terms:

  • Agreed value amount, The agreed value for a new Ghost ranges from Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 7.5 crore. Higher agreed value means higher OD premium but better claim payouts. Never accept a lowball agreed value to save on premium.
  • Model year and variant, The Ghost is available in Standard and Extended wheelbase. The Extended version costs Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore more, directly increasing the agreed value and premium.
  • Bespoke commissions, If your Ghost has custom-commissioned features (hand-painted coachlines, bespoke interior materials, personalized tread plates), these must be declared and added to the agreed value. Undeclared bespoke features are not covered during claims.
  • Registration city and storage, Where you park your Ghost matters. Secure garage parking in a gated community reduces theft risk. Metro registrations attract higher base premiums due to traffic density.
  • NCB history, A 50% NCB on a Ghost's OD premium can save Rs 1 to Rs 2 lakh annually. Protecting your NCB by avoiding small claims is extremely valuable at this premium level.
  • Chauffeur usage pattern, Declaring that your Ghost is primarily chauffeur-driven does not increase the premium. But adding paid driver PA cover (Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per year) is advisable for your driver's protection.
Pro Tip: Declare Every Bespoke Feature

Rolls-Royce offers virtually unlimited customization through its Bespoke programme. If your Ghost has a hand-painted coachline (Rs 3 to Rs 8 lakh), custom-dyed leather interior (Rs 5 to Rs 15 lakh), or a bespoke clock (Rs 2 to Rs 5 lakh), these additions must be declared in your agreed value. During a claim, undeclared modifications are not covered. And Rolls-Royce bespoke work cannot be replicated at a local workshop.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Insurance Cost Breakdown (2026 Estimates)

Below is an estimated breakdown of Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance costs. These are indicative figures for a luxury vehicle in this price bracket.

Component Estimated Cost Notes
TP Premium ~Rs 7,890/yr Above 1500cc slab (6749cc V12)
OD Premium (basic) Rs 2,50,000 – Rs 5,00,000/yr Based on agreed value of Rs 5.5Cr–Rs 7.5Cr
Zero Depreciation Add-on Rs 30,000 – Rs 60,000/yr Non-negotiable, imported parts lose 30-50% without it
Return-to-Invoice Add-on Rs 20,000 – Rs 40,000/yr Covers gap between agreed value and on-road price
Roadside Assistance Rs 3,000 – Rs 8,000/yr Luxury vehicle flatbed recovery included
Paid Driver PA Cover Rs 5,000 – Rs 15,000/yr Essential for chauffeur-driven Ghost
Comprehensive Total (with add-ons) Rs 3,00,000 – Rs 6,00,000/yr Full protection for a Rs 7Cr+ ultra-luxury sedan

Note: Premiums shown are indicative for agreed value policies. Actual rates vary by insurer, agreed value, city, NCB, and bespoke features. Figures for FY 2025-26.

  • The TP premium is negligible relative to OD, At Rs 7,890/yr, the TP component is less than 2% of total premium. The OD calculated on a Rs 5.5 to Rs 7.5 crore agreed value drives the cost
  • NCB savings are massive, A 50% NCB on an OD premium of Rs 4 lakh saves you Rs 2 lakh per year. Over 5 claim-free years, that is Rs 10 lakh saved
  • Every add-on is worth the cost, For a Rs 7 crore car, Rs 60,000 on zero depreciation and Rs 40,000 on return-to-invoice are trivial compared to Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh in out-of-pocket expenses during a claim
  • Extended wheelbase adds Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 to annual premium, The longer body means higher agreed value and proportionally higher premium

Common Mistakes Rolls-Royce Ghost Owners Make with Insurance

Warning: Never Accept Standard IDV for a Rolls-Royce Ghost

The standard IDV depreciation schedule can reduce your Ghost's insured value by Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore within just 3 years. This is catastrophically inadequate for an ultra-luxury vehicle that retains its value far better than depreciation tables suggest. Always insist on an agreed value policy that reflects the true market value of your Ghost. The premium difference is minimal compared to the crores you could lose during a total loss or theft claim.

Avoid these expensive mistakes when insuring your Rolls-Royce Ghost:

  • Not declaring bespoke commissions, Your hand-painted coachline (Rs 3 to Rs 8 lakh), custom embroidery, or personalized tread plates are not covered unless explicitly declared in the agreed value. During a claim, the insurer only pays for standard specifications.
  • Skipping zero depreciation on a fully imported car, Without zero dep, you bear 30% to 50% depreciation on replaced parts. A Ghost headlamp at Rs 5 lakh with 40% depreciation means Rs 2 lakh from your pocket. Zero dep costs Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 per year, a fraction of one claim deduction.
  • Getting repairs done at non-authorised centres, A Ghost's aluminium spaceframe, air suspension, and bespoke electronics require factory-trained technicians. Non-authorised repairs can damage the vehicle further, void the warranty, and result in claim rejection.
  • Forgetting paid driver PA cover, Your chauffeur is at the wheel every day. Without paid driver PA cover, an accident injury to your driver is not covered under the standard owner-driver PA. This add-on costs Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 annually.
  • Letting the policy lapse and losing NCB, A 50% NCB on a Ghost's premium saves Rs 1 to Rs 2 lakh per year. Losing this by letting the policy lapse even for a day is an extremely costly oversight.

Tips for Rolls-Royce Ghost Insurance

Smart decisions can help you protect your Ghost optimally while managing premium costs at this level:

  • Protect your NCB at all costs, At this premium level, a 50% NCB saves Rs 1 to Rs 2 lakh per year. Minor scratches and parking dings under Rs 1 lakh are better paid out-of-pocket than claimed, to preserve your bonus.
  • Set the agreed value with care, Work with your Rolls-Royce relationship manager to determine the true replacement value including bespoke features. Do not let the insurer undervalue your Ghost to reduce their liability.
  • Bundle every available add-on, Zero depreciation, return-to-invoice, roadside assistance, consumables, and paid driver PA together cost Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh per year. For a Rs 7 crore vehicle, this is a rounding error compared to unprotected claim costs.
  • Buy online at hizuno.com, Digital purchase eliminates middleman margins. At premium levels of Rs 3 to Rs 6 lakh, even a 2% to 3% saving translates to Rs 6,000 to Rs 18,000 annually.
  • Maintain a secure, covered parking arrangement, Your Ghost should always be garaged. Demonstrating secure parking can positively influence your premium negotiation and reduces vandalism and weather damage risk.
  • Renew well before expiry, Set a reminder 30 days before policy expiry. A lapsed ultra-luxury policy requires a physical inspection that can delay coverage and expose your Ghost during the gap period.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Ownership and Bespoke Insurance

Owning a Rolls-Royce Ghost in India is a statement of ultimate success. The Ghost's post-opulence design philosophy, minimal, pure, and technologically innovative, makes it the choice of business leaders, industrialists, and connoisseurs who prefer quiet luxury. Insuring one requires understanding what makes each Ghost unique.

Bespoke Features That Need Insurance Declaration

Rolls-Royce's Bespoke programme means no two Ghosts are identical. Here are common customizations and their insurance implications:

Bespoke Feature Estimated Cost Insurance Action Required
Hand-painted coachline Rs 3 – Rs 8 lakh Declare in agreed value; cannot be replicated locally
Starlight headliner (1,340+ fibre optics) Rs 3 – Rs 8 lakh (repair/replace) Covered under OD; verify with insurer for sub-limits
Custom interior leather and wood Rs 5 – Rs 15 lakh Must be included in agreed value above standard spec
Personalized tread plates Rs 1 – Rs 3 lakh Declare as accessory; covered under agreed value
Spirit of Ecstasy (illuminated) Rs 2 – Rs 4 lakh (replacement) Covered under OD; high theft risk, ensure coverage
Bespoke clock Rs 2 – Rs 5 lakh Must be declared separately if aftermarket commission

Chauffeur Insurance: Protecting the Person Behind the Wheel

In India, over 90% of Rolls-Royce Ghost owners are driven by a personal chauffeur. This creates specific insurance needs:

  • Standard policy covers owner-driver PA only, The mandatory Rs 15 lakh personal accident cover applies only to the owner-driver. Your chauffeur is not covered unless you add paid driver PA cover.
  • Paid driver PA cover costs Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per year, This covers your chauffeur for accidental injury or death while driving your Ghost. Given that your driver is behind the wheel daily, this is essential.
  • Comprehensive OD covers damage regardless of who drives, Whether you or your chauffeur is driving when an accident occurs, the own damage claim is valid. The policy does not distinguish between owner and hired driver for damage claims.
  • Your driver must have a valid driving licence, A claim can be rejected if the person driving at the time of accident does not hold a valid licence appropriate for the vehicle type. Verify your chauffeur's licence validity and renewal dates.

The Ghost's Unique Repair Challenges in India

Repairing a Rolls-Royce Ghost in India presents challenges that do not exist for any other vehicle segment:

  • Parts sourced exclusively from Goodwood, UK, Every component, from body panels to electronic modules, is manufactured at the Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood, West Sussex. There are no aftermarket alternatives. Shipping time is 4 to 12 weeks depending on the part.
  • Aluminium spaceframe requires specialist repair, The Ghost's all-aluminium Architecture of Luxury platform cannot be repaired with conventional bodywork techniques. Welding, straightening, or patching must follow Rolls-Royce-certified procedures.
  • Multi-layer paint finish takes weeks to match, The Ghost's paint involves multiple layers of primer, base coat, colour coat, and lacquer, each hand-applied. Matching the exact colour from Rolls-Royce's 44,000-shade palette requires factory-grade equipment available only at authorised centres.
  • Electronics and software are proprietary, The Ghost's infotainment, driver assistance, and chassis management systems use proprietary Rolls-Royce software. Diagnostics and updates require factory tools that only authorised centres possess.
Ghost Ownership Tip: Keep Your Service History Immaculate

A Rolls-Royce Ghost with a complete authorised service history retains significantly more value than one serviced elsewhere. During insurance claims, an immaculate service record also speeds up the process, the insurer has documented proof of the vehicle's condition and genuine parts usage. Never skip or delay scheduled maintenance at an authorised Rolls-Royce centre, even if the cost runs Rs 1 to Rs 2 lakh per service.

Extended Warranty vs Insurance for the Rolls-Royce Ghost (2026)

A manufacturer warranty on the Rolls-Royce Ghost covers manufacturing defects for a fixed period and kilometre limit. An extended warranty prolongs that same defect cover. It is sold by the manufacturer or the dealer, not by an insurer, and it does not replace motor insurance.

The two protect against different things and do not overlap:

  • An extended warranty pays when a covered part fails on its own, such as a gearbox, ECU or electrical component that stops working with no external cause.
  • Motor insurance pays for accident damage, theft, fire, flood and third-party liability. A warranty covers none of these.
  • Third-party cover stays compulsory under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 for as long as the Rolls-Royce Ghost is on the road, whether or not it is still under warranty.
  • Both exclude wear and tear. Consumables, tyres, brake pads and routine service sit outside a warranty and outside an own-damage claim. On the insurance side a consumables add-on is what covers those items.

The exact term and kilometre limit differ by variant and by year of manufacture, so check the warranty booklet in your Rolls-Royce Ghost document pack rather than relying on a general figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual insurance premium for a Rolls-Royce Ghost?
The annual insurance premium for a Rolls-Royce Ghost ranges from Rs 3,00,000 to Rs 6,00,000 for comprehensive coverage with agreed value. The exact amount depends on the model year, agreed value (Rs 5.5Cr to Rs 7.5Cr), city of registration, NCB discount, and add-ons selected.
Why is Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance so expensive?
The Ghost costs Rs 7.05 to Rs 7.95 crore. A single body panel costs Rs 5 to Rs 15 lakh. Paint matching alone costs Rs 1 to Rs 3 lakh. Every part is imported from Goodwood, UK with 100% to 150% duties. Only 2 to 3 authorised centres exist in India. These factors make the OD premium proportionally high.
What is an agreed value policy for the Rolls-Royce Ghost?
An agreed value policy means you and the insurer fix the insured value upfront, typically Rs 5.5 to Rs 7.5 crore for a Ghost. Unlike standard IDV that depreciates automatically each year, the agreed value stays constant throughout the policy period, ensuring fair payouts without depreciation deductions.
How can I buy Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance online?
Visit hizuno.com/car-insurance, enter your Ghost's registration number, select comprehensive coverage with agreed value, choose all recommended add-ons, and complete payment. Your policy is issued instantly via email.
Does Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance cover chauffeur-driven use?
Yes. Your comprehensive policy covers damage regardless of whether the owner or hired driver is at the wheel. However, the standard owner-driver PA cover does not extend to your chauffeur. Add paid driver personal accident cover (Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000/yr) to protect your driver.
What add-ons are essential for Rolls-Royce Ghost insurance?
All available add-ons are essential: zero depreciation (imported parts lose 30-50% without it), return-to-invoice, roadside assistance with luxury vehicle recovery, consumables cover, and paid driver PA cover. At this vehicle value, skipping any add-on is false economy.
How many network garages can service a Rolls-Royce Ghost?
Zuno General Insurance provides access to over 5,000+ network garages across India. However, Ghost repairs must be done exclusively at authorised Rolls-Royce centres (2 to 3 locations: Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad). Cashless facility availability at these centres depends on the insurer's network agreement.
How long does it take to repair a Rolls-Royce Ghost after an accident?
Repairs take 4 to 12 weeks depending on parts availability. Every component ships from Goodwood, England. Paint matching for the Ghost's multi-layer hand-applied finish alone takes 2 to 3 weeks. Complex structural repairs involving the aluminium spaceframe can extend to 16 weeks.
