Car Insurance for MG Astor — Premium, Coverage & Plans 2026

As of 2026, under current IRDAI norms.

The MG Astor holds a unique distinction in India — it was the first car in the country to offer an AI personal assistant and Level 2 ADAS at a price point under Rs 20 lakh. Priced from Rs 10.28 lakh to Rs 18.08 lakh (ex-showroom), the Astor is a mid-size SUV available with two petrol engine options: a 1498cc naturally aspirated unit producing 110 PS and a 1349cc turbo petrol producing 140 PS. With 6 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, and a digital Bluetooth key, this is one of the most technology-packed SUVs in its segment. MG Astor car insurance starts at approximately Rs 6,000 per year for a basic third-party plan and ranges up to Rs 17,000 per year for a fully loaded comprehensive policy with add-ons. Both engine options fall within the IRDAI third-party slab of 1001–1500cc, keeping TP premiums identical across variants.

What Is MG Astor Car Insurance?

MG Astor car insurance is a motor insurance policy that protects your Astor against financial losses from accidents, theft, natural calamities, and third-party legal claims. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every car on Indian roads must carry at least a valid third-party liability policy. For a technology-rich SUV like the MG Astor, a comprehensive plan is strongly recommended.

Here is what makes the MG Astor unique from an insurance perspective:

  • Two petrol engines in the same TP slab — The 1498cc NA petrol (110 PS) and the 1349cc turbo petrol (140 PS) both fall within the IRDAI third-party premium slab of 1001–1500cc, which means the fixed TP premium is approximately Rs 3,416 per year for both engines. However, the turbo variant attracts higher own-damage premiums due to costlier components.
  • India's first AI personal assistant in a car — The Astor's AI system uses a dashboard-mounted screen with natural language processing for voice commands, mood detection, and driving reminders. This AI module costs Rs 12,000–Rs 20,000 to replace if damaged, making comprehensive cover important for equipped variants.
  • Level 2 ADAS on select trims — Features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, and blind spot detection rely on radar sensors and cameras. The ADAS sensor suite costs Rs 15,000–Rs 30,000 to replace, plus recalibration charges after windshield replacement.
  • Premium cabin technology raises repair bills — The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital Bluetooth key, i-SMART connected car tech, and 360-degree camera are segment-leading features. But a single electronics claim can run Rs 15,000–Rs 25,000 depending on the component.
  • Turbo intercooler costs are significant — The 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine uses an intercooler assembly that costs Rs 10,000–Rs 18,000 to replace. Engine protection add-on is critical for turbo variant owners, especially in flood-prone cities.
  • Price range of Rs 10.28 lakh to Rs 18.08 lakh — Your variant choice directly impacts the IDV (ranging from Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh) and annual premium. Higher variants with ADAS and the turbo engine attract higher own-damage costs.

Why MG Astor Insurance Matters

Insuring the MG Astor is about far more than meeting legal requirements. The Astor packs modern AI technology and autonomous driving hardware that costs substantially more to repair than parts on a standard hatchback or compact sedan. Here is what repairs look like without insurance:

Component Estimated Repair/Replacement Cost
ADAS sensor suite Rs 15,000 – Rs 30,000
AI personal assistant module Rs 12,000 – Rs 20,000
10.1" touchscreen display Rs 10,000 – Rs 18,000
LED headlamp assembly Rs 8,000 – Rs 15,000
Turbo intercooler (1.3T) Rs 10,000 – Rs 18,000
Alloy wheel set (per wheel) Rs 8,000 – Rs 14,000

A single front-end collision on a top-spec Savvy variant could involve ADAS sensor replacement (Rs 30,000) + LED headlamp (Rs 15,000) + bumper (Rs 8,000) + alloy wheel (Rs 14,000) = Rs 67,000 or more in one incident. Here is why every Astor owner needs proper coverage:

  • Legal compliance — Driving without at least third-party insurance attracts a fine of Rs 2,000 for the first offence and Rs 4,000 for repeat offences. TP premiums for both Astor engines are fixed by IRDAI at approximately Rs 3,416 per year (1001–1500cc slab).
  • ADAS sensor and camera protection — The Sharp and Savvy trims carry front radar, windshield-mounted camera, and ultrasonic sensors for Level 2 autonomous features. A single sensor replacement costs Rs 15,000–Rs 30,000, and recalibration adds Rs 5,000–Rs 8,000.
  • AI system component coverage — The AI personal assistant module is unique to the Astor and is not a standard off-the-shelf part. Replacement costs of Rs 12,000–Rs 20,000 make comprehensive cover essential for equipped variants.
  • Turbo engine protection — The 1.3-litre turbo petrol uses precision turbocharger components. Engine damage from waterlogging or oil starvation can cost Rs 30,000–Rs 60,000 to repair. An engine protection add-on is critical for turbo owners in monsoon-heavy cities.
  • Theft protection — The MG Astor is a popular mid-size SUV. Comprehensive cover protects your full IDV (up to Rs 15 lakh for top variants) in case of theft.
  • Third-party liability — Accident claims by other road users can exceed Rs 10 lakh for pedestrian injuries alone. Your policy covers this so you do not pay from your own pocket.
  • Natural calamity cover — Floods, hailstorms, and earthquakes can cause extensive damage. The Astor's monocoque construction means water ingress during urban flooding can affect the electrical systems, ADAS sensors, and the AI module simultaneously.
  • Personal accident cover — A mandatory Rs 15 lakh owner-driver personal accident cover is included in every motor insurance policy, protecting you against injury or death in a road accident.
MG Astor Repair Cost Reality Check

The MG Astor is one of the most feature-dense SUVs under Rs 20 lakh — but that technology comes with higher repair bills. A typical front-end collision on a Savvy variant: front bumper (Rs 8,000) + one LED headlamp (Rs 15,000) + ADAS radar sensor (Rs 25,000) + one alloy wheel (Rs 12,000) + bonnet respray (Rs 6,000) = Rs 66,000+ in a single incident. Add the AI module or turbo intercooler damage, and bills cross Rs 85,000 easily. A comprehensive policy with zero depreciation ensures you pay close to nothing for such repairs.

Coverage Options: Third-Party vs Comprehensive

MG Astor owners can choose between two main types of car insurance. Here is a clear comparison to help you decide which one suits your needs.

Feature Third-Party Only Comprehensive
Third-party bodily injury Covered (unlimited) Covered (unlimited)
Third-party property damage Covered (up to Rs 7.5 lakh) Covered (up to Rs 7.5 lakh)
Own damage from accidents Not covered Covered
Theft of vehicle Not covered Covered (up to IDV: Rs 8.5L–15L)
Fire damage Not covered Covered
Natural calamities Not covered Covered
Personal accident cover Rs 15 lakh (owner-driver) Rs 15 lakh (owner-driver)
ADAS sensor & camera repair Not covered Covered (sensor suite: Rs 15,000–30,000)
Engine protection Not covered Covered with engine protect add-on (turbo repair: Rs 30,000–60,000)
AI personal assistant module Not covered Covered (replacement: Rs 12,000–20,000)
10.1" touchscreen & electronics Not covered Covered (touchscreen: Rs 10,000–18,000)
LED headlamp assembly Not covered Covered (Rs 8,000–15,000 per unit)
Add-ons available No Yes (zero dep, engine protect, RSA, consumables, key replacement, etc.)
Approx. annual premium Rs 6,000 – Rs 7,500 Rs 8,000 – Rs 14,000
Best for Old Astor (5+ years), tight budget New or recent Astor, all ADAS/turbo variants (strongly recommended)

Our recommendation: For a car valued between Rs 10.28 lakh and Rs 18.08 lakh with an IDV of Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, comprehensive coverage is the only sensible choice. The difference between third-party (~Rs 6,000–7,500/yr) and comprehensive (~Rs 8,000–14,000/yr) is roughly Rs 2,000–6,500 per year — less than the cost of replacing a single MG Astor LED headlamp. For Sharp and Savvy owners with ADAS and the AI system, add zero depreciation and engine protection to avoid paying 30–40% of repair costs from your own pocket.

How to Buy MG Astor Insurance Online

Buying car insurance for your MG Astor takes less than 5 minutes online. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter your car details — Visit the Zuno car insurance page and enter your MG Astor registration number. Alternatively, select MG Motor as the make, Astor as the model, and pick your exact variant and year.
  2. Choose your plan type — Select between third-party only and comprehensive coverage. For the Astor, we recommend comprehensive to fully protect your AI and ADAS investment.
  3. Set your IDV and add-ons — Adjust the Insured Declared Value if needed. Pick add-ons like zero depreciation, engine protection (essential for 1.3T), roadside assistance, and return to invoice based on your driving needs.
  4. Review and compare quotes — Check the final premium, coverage amount, and included benefits. Look at the claim settlement ratio and network garages before you decide.
  5. Pay and download your policy — Complete the payment using UPI, net banking, debit card, or credit card. Your policy document is emailed instantly and is active from the moment of purchase.

Key Factors That Affect Your MG Astor Premium

Your MG Astor insurance premium is not a flat number. Several factors determine how much you pay each year:

  • Engine type — The 1498cc NA petrol and the 1349cc turbo petrol both fall in the 1001–1500cc TP slab. However, the turbo variant attracts a higher own-damage premium because turbo components like the intercooler and turbocharger are expensive to replace.
  • Variant level — A base Style with fewer features has a lower IDV and premium than a fully loaded Savvy with ADAS, AI assistant, and digital Bluetooth key. The IDV difference can be Rs 5–6 lakh between base and top variants.
  • Registration city — Cars registered in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore attract higher premiums due to greater accident risk and congested traffic conditions.
  • NCB discount — A claim-free year earns you a 20% NCB on the own-damage premium. This grows to 50% after 5 consecutive claim-free years, saving you thousands annually.
  • IDV setting — A higher IDV means a higher premium but also a larger payout in case of total loss or theft. Setting your IDV too low to save Rs 500–800 on premium can cost you lakhs during claims.
  • Add-ons selected — Each add-on increases your premium. Zero depreciation adds Rs 1,000–2,000 per year. Engine protection costs Rs 500–1,000 per year. Choose based on your specific variant and driving conditions.
Both Engines, Same TP Slab

Unlike many SUVs where the diesel or larger engine attracts a higher TP premium, both MG Astor engines — the 1498cc NA petrol and the 1349cc turbo petrol — fall within the same IRDAI slab of 1001–1500cc. This means the mandatory third-party premium is approximately Rs 3,416 per year for both. The real cost difference lies in the own-damage component, where turbo variants cost 10–15% more to insure.

MG Astor Insurance Premium Table (2026 Estimates)

Below are estimated annual premiums for the MG Astor across different plan types and engine options. Actual premiums depend on your city, NCB, add-ons, and insurer.

Plan Type Engine Approx. Annual Premium

Common Insurance Mistakes MG Astor Owners Make

Avoid These Costly Errors

MG Astor owners often make insurance mistakes that cost them lakhs during claims. The most common error is skipping zero depreciation on an SUV loaded with expensive ADAS sensors, an AI module, and turbo engine parts.

  • Choosing only third-party for a new Astor — Third-party insurance does not cover your own car. A single accident repair on a Savvy variant can exceed Rs 70,000. Without own-damage cover, you pay every rupee yourself.
  • Skipping zero depreciation cover — Standard policies deduct 30–50% for depreciation on plastic, rubber, and glass parts. On an Astor with LED headlamps (Rs 5,000+), alloy wheels (Rs 5,000+ each), and ADAS sensors, the out-of-pocket cost adds up rapidly.
  • Setting IDV too low to save on premium — A lower IDV saves Rs 400–800 on premium but reduces your payout by lakhs in case of total loss or theft. Always set IDV close to the current market value of your variant.
  • Ignoring engine protection on the 1.3 Turbo — Water ingress during monsoon can destroy the turbo petrol engine. Engine protection cover costs Rs 500–1,000 per year but can save you Rs 30,000–Rs 60,000 in waterlogging repairs.
  • Forgetting to transfer NCB when switching insurers — Your NCB belongs to you, not the insurer. When you switch or renew, always carry your NCB forward. A 50% NCB can save Rs 2,500–3,500 per year on an Astor.
  • Not informing the insurer about modifications — Aftermarket accessories like roof racks, bull bars, or upgraded audio systems must be declared. Undisclosed modifications can lead to claim rejection.

Tips to Lower Your MG Astor Insurance Premium

Smart choices can reduce your Astor insurance cost without cutting important coverage. Here are six proven strategies:

  • Build and protect your NCB — A 50% NCB after 5 claim-free years can save Rs 2,500–3,500 per year on own-damage premium. Avoid filing claims for minor scratches under Rs 2,000 to preserve your bonus.
  • Install approved anti-theft devicesARAI-approved devices can earn you a 2.5% discount on the own-damage premium. The Astor already comes with an immobiliser, but an additional GPS tracker strengthens your case.
  • Opt for a voluntary deductible — Agreeing to pay a voluntary deductible of Rs 5,000–Rs 15,000 during claims lowers your annual premium by 15–30%. Choose this if you rarely file claims and are a careful driver.
  • Use the network garages — Cashless repairs at the 5,000+ network garages are faster and often cheaper because of pre-negotiated rates. Confirm that your insurer has MG-authorised service centres in the network.
  • Renew on time every year — Letting your policy lapse means losing your NCB and possibly needing a vehicle inspection to restart coverage. Set a renewal reminder 15 days before expiry.
  • Bundle only the add-ons you need — Zero depreciation and engine protection are essential for the Astor, especially turbo and ADAS variants. Roadside assistance is valuable. Skip add-ons like tyre protect if your annual mileage is low.

MG Astor Variants and AI-Powered Insurance Tips

The MG Astor is available in five main trim levels across two engine options. Each combination affects your insurance premium differently. Here is a variant-by-variant breakdown.

Variant-Wise Insurance Overview

Variant Price (Ex-Showroom) Engine Approx. IDV Approx. Premium
Style Rs 10.28L 1.5L NA (110 PS) Rs 8.50L Rs 8,000–9,500
Super Rs 11.98L 1.5L NA (110 PS) Rs 9.80L Rs 9,000–10,500
Smart Rs 13.48L 1.3L Turbo (140 PS) Rs 11.20L Rs 10,000–11,500
Sharp Rs 15.78L 1.3L Turbo (140 PS) Rs 13.00L Rs 11,500–13,000
Savvy Rs 18.08L 1.3L Turbo (140 PS) Rs 15.00L Rs 12,500–14,000

ADAS and AI System Insurance Considerations

The MG Astor's most distinctive features — its AI personal assistant and Level 2 ADAS — have specific insurance implications that every owner should understand:

  • Level 2 ADAS reduces accident severity — Features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist can prevent or reduce the impact of collisions. While insurers do not yet offer direct discounts for ADAS-equipped cars, fewer severe claims help maintain a clean record and preserve your NCB.
  • ADAS sensors are expensive to replace — The radar sensor, front camera, and ultrasonic sensor array cost Rs 15,000–Rs 30,000 to replace. After any windshield replacement, these sensors require professional recalibration costing Rs 5,000–Rs 8,000. Zero depreciation cover ensures you pay minimal out-of-pocket for these repairs.
  • AI assistant module is a proprietary component — The AI personal assistant hardware is specific to the MG Astor and cannot be sourced from the aftermarket. Replacement through MG-authorised service centres costs Rs 12,000–Rs 20,000, making comprehensive cover with zero depreciation important.
  • i-SMART connected car features — The Astor's i-SMART system with over 80 connected features, digital Bluetooth key, and geo-fencing capabilities add to the electronics repair bill if the telematics module is damaged. These components are covered under the own-damage section of a comprehensive policy.
  • Future telematics-based pricing — The Astor's connected car data (driving patterns, braking behaviour, speed profiles) could qualify you for usage-based insurance discounts as more insurers adopt telematics pricing. Safe driving habits tracked by the car itself may reduce future renewal premiums.
Smart Tip for Savvy and Sharp Owners

If you own the Sharp or Savvy variant with Level 2 ADAS and the AI personal assistant, your three most important add-ons are: (1) zero depreciation to cover ADAS sensor and AI module replacement without depreciation deduction, (2) engine protection for the turbo powertrain, and (3) return to invoice to protect your full on-road investment. These three add-ons together cost approximately Rs 2,500–Rs 4,000 per year but can save you Rs 50,000+ in a single claim.

Extended Warranty vs Insurance for the MG Astor — Premium (2026)

A manufacturer warranty on the MG Astor — Premium covers manufacturing defects for a fixed period and kilometre limit. An extended warranty prolongs that same defect cover. It is sold by the manufacturer or the dealer, not by an insurer, and it does not replace motor insurance.

The two protect against different things and do not overlap:

  • An extended warranty pays when a covered part fails on its own, such as a gearbox, ECU or electrical component that stops working with no external cause.
  • Motor insurance pays for accident damage, theft, fire, flood and third-party liability. A warranty covers none of these.
  • Third-party cover stays compulsory under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 for as long as the MG Astor — Premium is on the road, whether or not it is still under warranty.
  • Both exclude wear and tear. Consumables, tyres, brake pads and routine service sit outside a warranty and outside an own-damage claim. On the insurance side a consumables add-on is what covers those items.

The exact term and kilometre limit differ by variant and by year of manufacture, so check the warranty booklet in your MG Astor — Premium document pack rather than relying on a general figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the starting premium for MG Astor car insurance?
MG Astor car insurance starts at approximately Rs 6,000 per year for a third-party plan covering the 1.5L NA petrol variant. Comprehensive coverage for the base Style variant starts around Rs 8,000 per year and goes up to Rs 14,000 per year for the top Savvy turbo variant. Adding zero depreciation and engine protection takes the total to Rs 13,000–Rs 17,000 per year.
Does MG Astor insurance cover ADAS sensors?
Yes, a comprehensive insurance policy covers ADAS sensor repair and replacement under the own-damage section. The ADAS sensor suite on the MG Astor costs Rs 15,000–Rs 30,000 to replace. We strongly recommend adding zero depreciation cover to ensure you receive the full claim amount without depreciation deductions on these electronic components.
Is there a difference in premium between 1.5L and 1.3 Turbo?
The TP premium is identical for both engines because the 1498cc NA and 1349cc turbo both fall in the IRDAI slab of 1001–1500cc (~Rs 3,416/yr). However, the turbo variant attracts a higher own-damage premium — typically 10–15% more — because turbo components like the intercooler (Rs 10,000–18,000) and turbocharger are more expensive to repair or replace.
What add-ons should I get for MG Astor?
The most valuable add-ons for the MG Astor are: (1) zero depreciation cover — essential for ADAS sensors, AI module, and LED headlamps, (2) engine protection — critical for the 1.3 turbo in flood-prone cities, (3) roadside assistance — 24/7 towing and on-road support, (4) return to invoice — covers the gap between IDV and purchase price in case of total loss, and (5) consumables cover — covers engine oil, brake fluid, and coolant during claims.
How do I buy MG Astor insurance online?
Visit the Zuno car insurance page, enter your MG Astor registration number or select your make, model, variant, and year manually. Choose between third-party and comprehensive plans, set your IDV, pick your add-ons, compare quotes, and pay using UPI, net banking, or card. Your policy document is emailed instantly and is valid immediately.
What is the IDV of an MG Astor?
The IDV for a new MG Astor ranges from approximately Rs 8.50 lakh for the base Style 1.5L variant to Rs 15.00 lakh for the top Savvy 1.3 Turbo variant. IDV decreases each year due to depreciation — typically 10–15% in the first year and 8–10% annually thereafter. Always set your IDV close to the actual market value to avoid being underinsured.
Can I transfer my NCB when switching MG Astor insurance?
Yes, your NCB is linked to you as a policyholder, not to the insurance company. When switching your MG Astor insurance to a new provider, request an NCB certificate from your existing insurer. You can carry forward up to 50% NCB (earned after 5 consecutive claim-free years), which saves Rs 2,500–Rs 3,500 per year on your own-damage premium.
Does the AI personal assistant affect insurance?
The MG Astor's AI personal assistant does not directly increase or decrease your insurance premium. However, the AI module is an expensive proprietary electronic component that costs Rs 12,000–Rs 20,000 to replace if damaged in an accident. This replacement cost is covered under the own-damage section of a comprehensive policy. Additionally, as connected-car data becomes more mainstream, the AI system's driving behaviour insights may contribute to usage-based insurance discounts in the future.
