1. Create an account on the Parivahan Sewa portal

Visit the Parivahan Sewa website and create an account if you don’t have one. This portal is managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and highways and is the official platform for all driving licence-related services in India.

2. Log in and select ‘driving licence services’

Once logged in, select ‘driving licence services’ from the menu. Here, you’ll find various options related to your driving licence.

3. Choose the state and RTO

Select the state where your driving licence was originally issued and the regional transport office (RTO) that manages your licence.

4. Apply for change of address

In the list of services, choose ‘change of address’. Fill in the necessary details, including your new address.

5. Enter your driving licence number and date of birth

In this step, you need to input your 'driving licence number' and 'date of birth' into the designated fields.

6. Retrieve your driving licence details

Next, click on 'get dl details' to fetch your driving licence information.

7. Verify your driving licence information

Make sure the displayed details are yours by selecting the relevant option from the drop-down menu provided. Once confirmed, proceed to the next step to complete the process of updating your address.

8. Choose address type and complete the information

Decide whether you want to update your 'permanent,' 'present,' or 'both' addresses. Fill in the required details accurately.

9. Confirm and submit your details

Review the information you have entered. If everything is correct, click on 'confirm' and then 'submit' to proceed.

10. Pay the processing fee

Make a payment for the processing fee. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the payment using your preferred method.

a. Proof of address

You will need to provide valid proof of your new address. Acceptable documents include your aadhaar card, passport, Voter ID card, utility bills, or a rent agreement.

b. Original driving licence

Remember to carry the original driving licence that was issued by your regional transport office (RTO).

c. Recent passport-sized photographs

Ensure you have recent photographs, typically two, that meet the specifications mentioned on the portal.

d. Application form

The filled application form is available on the Parivahan Sewa portal. Download, fill it out, and upload it as part of your application.

Step 1: Get the required certificates 

First, head to the regional transport office (RTO) where you got your original driving licence. Obtain a no objection certificate (NOC) and a clearance certificate from them.

Step 2: Prepare your application 

Draft a letter to the RTO requesting an address update for your driving licence. Clearly mention the new address and the reason for the change.

Step 3: Go to the RTO

Bring your application and all necessary documents to the RTO. Submit them and pay any applicable fees.

Step 4: Complete biometric steps

Step 5: Get an acknowledgement

Timeline for receiving updated licence

• Within the same state: if you are changing your address within the same state, your new driving licence should arrive within 10 days.

• Different state: for address changes to a different state, the process may take between 30 and 60 days to complete verification.
